If you're planning to visit our office, IVF HAWAII has provided some basic information for our new patients so that everyone feels more comfortable and prepared for their first visit. In addition to doing our jobs as doctors and nurses, we realize that fertility is a very emotional issue for couples, so we're committed to welcoming and supporting you through every part of the IVF process and pregnancy.

Preparing for your first consultation

Your initial visit at IVF HAWAII will begin with a private consultation with our Nurse Coordinator. Using extensive medical records and your medical and fertility history, she will organize your information, financial planning options, and present the IVF process with visual illustrations.

Next, you'll be ready to continue your consultation with Dr. Chun. To allow for a more complete assessment, and in addition to reviewing your medical records, Dr. Chun will perform a brief physical examination and pelvic ultrasound. With this information, together you'll create an individual treatment plan and answer all of your questions about fertility and IVF.

Infertility details

Infertility is defined as the inability to become pregnant after 12 months of unprotected intercourse. After age 35, this diagnosis for females after 6 months instead of 12. There are many causes for infertility which are equally divided between male and female factors. However, a small percentage is unexplained.
 
Causes of infertility related to the female partner (40%) are often related to tubal disease, ovarian problems, and endometriosis.

Male factors (40%) involved abnormal sperm count, motility (movement), morphology (structure), or dysfunction.

Unexplained (idiopathic) infertility is diagnosed only after all other causes are excluded and only can be made after laparoscopy.
